
Saudi Arabia plans to prepare the first sites for the American system within four years
What is known
The government of the largest state inThe Arabian Peninsula spent $15 billion to buy Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, which is called the best American air defense system. By the end of the year, the kingdom will complete the arrangement of the first four sites. In April 2028, all seven sites for THAAD will be ready.
Storage for missiles THAAD Arabians will build inearly 2025 in Al-Kharaj. The first position for deploying a battery of missile systems will be put into operation in February 2026 on the coast of the Persian Gulf. Three more sites will be located in Yanbu, Taif and Khalida. Work on them will be completed during 2026.
We add that in addition to THAAD, Saudi Arabia will soonwill receive 300 missiles for the Patriot air defense system. The corresponding agreement between the states was concluded in early August 2022. The contract value was $3.05 billion.
Terminal High Altitude Area Defense candestroy enemy ballistic missiles with a launch range of 3500 km both in the atmosphere and beyond. The interception height is 200 km. THAAD uses rockets weighing 900 kg that can reach speeds in excess of Mach 8 (2800 m/s). The radar system of the missile system is capable of detecting enemy targets at a distance of 1000 km.
