Overall, their study echoes earlier findings:The likelihood of hospitalization and death with COVID-19 increases with the patient's age. Scientists confirmed them by analyzing data on coronavirus cases in China and other 37 countries in February.
Researchers divided patients into groups independing on age. As stated in the scientific work, a brief summary of which is given by the RIA Novosti publication, the risk of death from coronavirus infection under the age of 39 years is minimal - "practically equal to zero." In the age group from 40 to 49 years, it increases to 0.2%, in the group of 50-59 years - to 0.6%, in the group of 60-69 years - to almost 2%.
The risk is highest in people aged 70 to 79 years (4.3%) and those over 80 years old (7.8%).
It is worth noting that the World OrganizationHealth (WHO) on its website indicates: the likelihood of a severe course of COVID-19 is increased in people with arterial hypertension, heart disease, lung disease, cancer or diabetes. It’s too early to talk about the lethality of a new virus.
