Scientists have created a new type of photocell for the production of solar energy

According to the authors, photocells will be able to provide energy for Internet of Things devices, fitness trackers,

smart watches, headphones.

The authors note that now the market for wireless devices and sensors for the Internet of Things requires autonomous energy sources with low power consumption and a power of about one microwatt.

For example, these requirements are met by compact photovoltaic batteries based on perovskites, which can provide energy reserves even when charged from the light of ordinary indoor lamps.

Perovskite is a mineral from the perovskite group.class of oxides. The efficiency of perovskite solar cells is about 25%, which is comparable to semiconductors, but they are much simpler to manufacture.

In a new work, the authors described the designa planar solar cell using nickel oxide nanoparticles and an original structure that simplifies the production technology and reduces energy losses.

The resulting power density of 28.4 μW / cm2 at 400 lux, that is, the standard office illumination, is at least two and a half times higher than the silicon counterparts.
