Scientists have discovered a new quantum effect - spin-rotational coupling

The effect discovered by scientists, from the point of view of classical physics, looks like a person starts quickly

spin around its axis, and then jumps onto a rotating carousel.

The researchers decided to check whether sucheffect in quantum physics. To do this, they conducted an experiment in which a neutron rotating around its axis passes through an area with a twisted and constantly rotating magnetic field created by a coil.

As a result, scientists noticed that the spin of the neutron, which actually does not carry any mass and can only be described quantum mechanically, acquires the property of inertia.

Spin can be considered as a moment of momentuman object that is compressed to some point. Surprisingly, we created a pure quantum effect that cannot be understood classically. But we were able to demonstrate for a very specific case that the classical concept of inertia is valid for the neutron spin.
