Scientists have discovered that the asteroid Bennu throws tons of dust into space. This is an extremely rare property for asteroids!

Bennu doesn't constantly emit a jet of dust — this phenomenon happensabout ten times a month.

It is not known whether these particles remain in the orbit of the asteroid and are then pulled back by this cosmic body, or remain in space.

The reasons for this behavior of the asteroid whileunknown. Scientists know several near-Earth objects, which also emit jets of dust as they approach the Sun. It is possible that particle emissions are associated with the sublimation of ice when a substance passes from a solid to a gaseous form, bypassing liquid.

Recently, NASA appealed to users of social networkswith the proposal to find and mark on a special map all the boulders on the surface of the asteroid Bennu. This will allow the crew of the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft to choose a place to land the probe.

Earlier, HITEC told in detail about the OSIRIS-REx mission to the Benn asteroid, which is the first contender for a collision with the Earth in the future.
