As researchers from the University of Hong Kong write,we pay less attention to a conversation that we think will be boring, and this lack of participation makes us feel even more bored in the end.

For the study, the authors of the work recruited 121student. Five minutes before the start of the psychology lecture, the students rated how boring they thought the class would be and indicated how bored they were at the moment. After the lecture, they were again asked about their level of boredom. It turned out that participants who predicted that the lecture would be more boring subsequently reported higher levels of boredom.
