Night time can be a frightening experience for some people. It is at night that they often report alleged
Exploding head syndrome (EHS) isa sleep disorder characterized by loud noises or a sensation of explosions in the head during wake-sleep or sleep-wake transitions. These experiences were also associated with belief in the supernatural and reported alleged paranormal phenomena. In particular, one study found a positive correlation between episodes of EHS and anomalous beliefs. A more recent study found that 2.8% of GBS sufferers endorsed the belief that the syndrome was the result of non-biological, supernatural causes, and 2.3% believed that it was due to electronic devices (i.e., possibly indicates some conspiratorial thoughts).
12.8 thousand people took part in the current study.human. They excluded those who suffer from various mental disorders and diseases that can cover the aforementioned syndromes. The final number of those who reported at least one episode of EHS or COI was 3286 (52.7%) and 3523 (51.7%), respectively. The average sleep efficiency for all participants was 84.42%. The average sleep latency was 28 minutes and the average sleep duration was 6 hours 51 minutes. The mean insomnia symptom score was 8.13.
Among the participants were several who strongly believe inparanormal events (that is, those who gave the answer "definitely yes"). For example, 12.7% strongly believed that the soul would live after death, 8.1% strongly believed in the existence of ghosts, 5.6% believed that some people could communicate with the dead, 3.4% strongly believed that near-death experiences (NDE) are evidence of life after death, 4.7% strongly believed in the existence of demons and 3.4% strongly believed that aliens visited the earth / communicated with people.
