The new study involved 16right-handed men who practiced balance 3 times for 10 minutes while standing on a balancing platform. The subjects had to give the platform a position parallel to the surface of the Earth. They have only their own muscles at their disposal.
During the experiment, neuroscientists assessed howat what speed does the angle of inclination of the board change when a person was on it. To analyze muscle activity, scientists attached electrodes to the surface of the subjects' skin, where they have flexor and extensor muscles in the lower leg and thigh areas. The athlete independently selected an effective strategy for controlling the balancing platform.
By the third training, the asymmetry is almostcompletely disappeared, which suggests that the exercises helped reduce the difference between the contribution to the work of the “leading” and “slave” limbs. At the beginning of the experiment, the subjects were able to stand on the board for about 150 seconds, and after half an hour of the experiment, the balancing time increased to 260 seconds. That is, short-term training on a balancing platform can quickly improve coordination and overcome the asymmetry of the right and left legs.
