The authors of a new study have developed a remedy that can reverse the loss of elasticity
Cardiovascular diseases are the mosta major cause of death worldwide. The consequences of a heart attack include damage to the heart muscle, which over time turns into scar tissue. It makes it difficult to pump and transport blood, since it does not have the elasticity and flexibility of healthy heart muscle. It is impossible to reverse this.
However, scientists have found a solution - restorationhearts using tropoelastin injections. In preclinical studies, scientists injected the purified substance into the heart wall of rats several days after an induced heart attack. They used a new surgical technique using ultrasound to guide the needle directly into the heart wall. It's less invasive.
Twenty-eight days later, the damaged and healed heart muscle had nearly recovered. She became more elastic and her muscle functions began to resemble those before the heart attack.
