Since then, detectives and archaeologists have discovered 26similar coins stretching from Maine to the Carolinas. All but three of them were found in New England. All of them appeared earlier before the capture of the Indian ship. The researchers also discovered a 3-gram gold nugget in a potato field located on a hilltop in the seaside town of Little Compton, Rhode Island.
There is no record of anything ever being found in the state.natural gold. Bailey and other experts believe the nugget comes from Africa's Gold Coast, the center of the slave trade in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Two silver Arabic coins were found near the specimen, and Avery is known to have captured huge quantities of gold during his voyage off the coast of West Africa.
