Scientists have found a gene for the production of sperm

Sertoli cells line the inner walls of long, narrow tubes in the testes (seminal

tubules), in which sperm production takes place. They act as docking stations that provide nutrients to the developing sperm.

Research has shown that if there is no Cdc42 geneor it does not function, the polarity of the Sertoli cells is disturbed. Because of this, they do not attach correctly or are located inside the seminiferous tubules. The displaced cells die off or support the sperm less well, and the body's ability to produce a constant supply of sperm is reduced. This disorder occurs in the mature testes of an adult.

“Understanding How Cdc42 Works in Malereproductive system, provides key information for the use of this gene as a potential biomarker of infertility or decreased testicular function, "- said PhD, lead author of the study, Tony De Falco.

In the long term, this discovery should reducethe percentage of male infertility. Scientists believe that treatment that improves the function of Sertoli cells will have a positive effect on male sperm production. But now they are not ready to edit this gene in humans.
