Scientists have found out how much more difficult it is to quit smoking if it started in childhood. The conclusions here are disappointing.

A large-scale study was conducted in the United States, in which they observed how smoking in childhood affectsThe study lasted almost 50 years, more than 6.6 thousand people participated in it.

First, the study showed that almost all of the adult participants who were smokers started using tobacco in childhood or adolescence.50% of those who first smoked between the ages of 6 and 12 were still smokers by the age of 40.At the same time, only 2% of volunteers who tried cigarettes for the first time at age 20 continued to smoke at age 40.

Secondly, among those volunteers who startedsmoking in childhood, only 25-37% were able to quit a bad habit with age. In general, scientists have come to the conclusion that tobacco use in childhood almost halves the chances of starting it later.
