Scientists have made a durable bioplastic from wood

In the new work, the authors described the process of deconstructing the porous matrix of natural wood, they turned

it into suspension.

The authors claim that the material receivedpossesses high mechanical strength, stability, and also retains liquid. It can also decompose or be recycled. It also has almost no environmental impact compared to plastics.

To create the mixture, the researchers usedwood powder is waste from sawmills. Next, they deconstructed the loose porous structure of the powder using a biodegradable and recyclable deep eutectic solvent (DES). The resulting mixture has high viscosity and can be cast without destruction.

Next, scientists tried to recyclethe resulting material: bioplastic sheets decomposed in the soil after two weeks and completely collapsed after three months. Bioplastic can also be turned back into a suspension.
