Scientists have made a Velcro fastener in the shape of microscopic mushrooms

Researchers from Wageningen University in the Netherlands have shown a new design that consists

made of soft materials and at the same time durable enough for work.

Modern fasteners are designed so thatcontain a tiny pattern on one surface that adheres to elements on another surface. This design must consist of a harder, more rigid material; it comes off loudly and sometimes damages the fabric. 

Scientists believe that hemispherical mushroom shapes provide sufficient adhesion to tissue and hold it firmly.

For the study, the authors used 3D printingto create soft surfaces with patterns of tiny mushrooms. This material was then securely attached to three different fabrics and removed, leaving no surface damage. 

The new silent technology can be used, the authors say, in diapers, fasteners and in the production of military clothing.
