The authors of the new work have created a new type of fiber that can store energy and then charge

The authors made a lithium-ion battery in the formfibers: they used an aluminum conductor coated with cobalt oxides - it became the anode, as well as a copper conductor coated with graphite - the cathode. To prevent short circuits, a special insulating coating was installed between them.
After that, the researchers found out that ifincrease the length of the fiber, then its internal resistance decreases, after which it evens out. Therefore, they created an industrial process that allows the production of fiber batteries several meters long, and they can be used as fabric for clothing.
During the experiment, the researchers chargedphone from a T-shirt made of new textiles worn by a person. But this is not the entire scope of application of the new development: textiles can also charge smart clothes. The new material retained 90.5% of its capacity after 500 cycles. In addition, it continued to work when it was folded, washed in water and even cut with a knife.
The textile fiber battery is a major step forward: it opens up new possibilities for wearable electronic devices, the authors say.
