Glioblastoma is considered the most common and most aggressive of all brain tumors. It accounts for about half of all primary brain tumors.
The authors of the new work noted that their image will help to better understand how a tumor develops, because artificially grown samples behave completely differently than in the human body.
We find protein in tumors removedsurgically, but not in glioblastoma, which is grown on flat Petri dishes in the laboratory. The reason is that cancer, like ordinary tissue, behaves completely differently on a plastic surface than in the human body. About 90% of all experimental drugs are discarded because successful results obtained in the laboratory are not replicated in living patients.”

To take an image,The researchers used 3D printing with living cells, and as “ink” astrocytes, microglia and the tumor itself, samples of which were taken from a volunteer patient.
As a result, glioblastoma turned out to benatural surroundings. Sequencing the genome of the printed tumor also showed that its DNA is closer to the real one than that of conventional models that were artificially grown.
This is a real breakthrough that will help develop new treatments for aggressive cancer.
