The authors of the work proposed an algorithm that compresses rock interspersed with crystals, fossils and

pebbles into a structure with better compactness.This allows you to calculate the required spatial characteristics with greater speed. The effectiveness of the method depends on the condition of the rock, the scientists noted. What matters is its porosity and the rate of change in topology.

The participant of the study, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Yaroslav Bazaykin said that the algorithm can reduce the time for calculating the spatial characteristics of the rock by 15 times.

The main purpose of development is to obtainan innovative way of sequestering carbon dioxide, its long-term disposal in geological formations. This is one of the methods for solving the problem of global warming, which has acquired particular relevance in our time. Urbanization and the increase in technical capacity have led to an increase in CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Now all countries are faced with the task of reducing and stabilizing carbon dioxide emissions.

Scientists will also be able to use the new method to speed up computations in studies using 3D digital images, such as tomographic or diffraction images.
