Scientists have proposed to extract energy for home devices from the magnetic fields of wiring

Scientists from Pennsylvania State University have proposed extracting energy for home devices from magnetic

electrical wiring fields. They have already managed to power a digital alarm clock in this way.

Scientists in their article talked about the creationspecial converters of electromagnetic fields into electric current. The main element in them is a multilayer thin plate with a permanent magnet at the free end. The composition of this plate includes a piezoelectric and magnetostrictive material, which changes its volume and linear dimensions when the state of magnetization changes.

In an alternating magnetic fieldwiring magnetostrictive material begins to vibrate and deform the piezoelectric plate. In the network that is connected to the device, current begins to flow. Meanwhile, a permanent magnet oscillates.

Scientists were able to power the alarm at a distance of 20 centimeters from the wiring.
