Experts from the College of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Toledo (USA) discovered that intestinal bacteria
In a new study, scientists examinedthe effect of bacteria in the intestines on the drug quinapril. Rats participated in this study: some had normal bacteria in their intestines, while others – depleted by antibiotics. It turned out that animals that had been given antibiotics before took the blood pressure medication much better.
Then it turned out that this was due to the Coprococcus bacterium. These substances can break down quinapril and ramipril, which is why the pressure does not decrease as much.
The results of the study were published in the scientific journal Hypertension.
