NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center reports preparations for a new mission to Venus. In the course of which
DAVINCI, as the probe was named, will be sent to Venus inas part of the new American mission of the same name - the first to enter the atmosphere of Venus in more than 40 years. The goal is to explore the planet in order to study its atmospheric composition and better understand the formation of this very atmosphere. The probe is slated to launch in 2029.
The probe will measure the chemical composition of the atmosphereVenus, its temperature, pressure and wind speed, along the way making infrared images before landing on the planet's surface. It will take about an hour. The task of the VMS is to absorb gas during the descent of the probe, analyze it and provide information on the chemical composition of Venus's atmosphere and possible links to the mineralogical properties of the surface.
One of the few images of the surface of Venus
VMS features a small size. As noted in NASA, on Venus sent "a complex chemical laboratory, compressed to the size of a portfolio."
Analysis of gases in the atmosphere of Venus and their comparison withindicators of other planets in the solar system will help to answer many processes. For example, how Venus formed and how it evolved, did it ever have oceans, how the planet's climate became so extreme.
