Scientists transplant human brain organoids into rats to repair brain damage

Biologists transplanted an organized clusterhuman brain cells, or organoid, into the rat brain. The experiment showed that miniature, lab-grown models of the wrinkled surface of the human brain could be used to repair damage in the brains of living rats.

Scientists managed to restore broken connectionsin sensory processing systems of rodents. The authors of the study suggest that in the future, with the help of such minibrains or brain organoids, treating the brain of patients will become a reality.

“This is the first step in developing a new strategy"Brain Repair," Han-Chiao Isaac Chen, senior author of the study and an assistant professor of neurosurgery at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.

Organoids will be useful for restoring functionsbrain after trauma, invasive surgery or stroke, as well as to combat the consequences of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease. However, there are many years left before this technology can be used in humans.

For the experiment, scientists grew brain organoids from human stem cells.
