Scientists understand how the Earth survived all the cataclysms and saved life

Institute of Technology (MIT) found out howThe earth has survived all these events. It turned out that the planet has a “stabilizing feedback” mechanism. Over hundreds of thousands of years, it balances extreme climate shifts, returning temperatures around the world back to normal, livable ranges.

The authors of the study called this mechanismsilicate weathering. This geological process helps regulate the Earth's carbon cycle. It involves the gradual weathering of silicate rocks, which neutralize carbon dioxide emissions from the planet's crust and mantle, directing them into ocean sediments.

For the study, MIT researchers studiedpaleoclimatic data. They show average global temperatures over the past 66 million years. Mathematical analysis of the data revealed a consistent pattern where the Earth's temperature fluctuations balanced out over hundreds of thousands of years. Scientists also used stochastic differential equations. They are often used to find patterns in fluctuating data sets.

Experts have noticed before that carbonThere is some unknown effect in the Earth's cycle that may stabilize the climate. Now scientists understand its nature. Research involving chemical analysis of ancient rocks has shown that fluctuations in carbon levels in the planet's environment remained fairly constant, even with significant temperature fluctuations.
