See how the police stopped a robot taxi on the street without a driver

The car belonged to Cruise, a subsidiary of General Motors. Cruise representatives said that on Sunday, 10

April, the robotaxi prototype sensed a police patrol approaching. The car program contained an algorithm according to which in this case it is necessary to stop.

An eyewitness filmed the policeasked the robotaxi prototype to stop. It is believed that the initial reason for the stop was that the headlights were off while driving, but after approaching the driver's seat, the police officer realized that no one was driving.

After the officer approached, roboticunexpectedly drove, crossed the intersection at the traffic light permitting signal and approached the roadside already behind the intersection. It is assumed that the algorithm considered the second stop to be safer, since it was behind the intersection, not in front of it.

It is noted that in order to communicate with the police, Cruise has a 24-hour telephone line through which the operator can answer any questions about the robot taxi.

Previously, GM's daughter was allowed to test robotic taxis without a driver behind the wheel, but this can only be done at night and along a certain route.
