Structure NGC 1385 lies approximately 68 million light years away in the constellation Fornax. This is

a faint constellation of the southern hemisphere of the sky, which is observed in the southern regions of Russia.

Galaxy NGC 1385 is a member of the NGC 1395 group of galaxies. In addition to NGC 1385, the group also includes 32 more galaxies.

The photograph shows a barred spiral galaxy. The spiral branches of such objects begin at the ends of the bar, whereas in ordinary spiral galaxies they exit directly from the core.
