In early January, a diver from Japan swam with an unusual companion: a 2.5-long giant squid
Yosuke Tanaka, who together with his wife managesT-Style dive resort in Toyooka, Japan, received a message from a local ferryman. He said that there was a large squid swimming near the surface of the water near the coast. Tanaka immediately went to the “meeting point” and saw with his own eyes one of the ocean’s most mysterious creatures and took several photographs.
Giant squids usually live in the depthsocean. You can only see their corpses washed up on the shore. Or they accidentally end up in fishing nets. According to the Smithsonian Institution, giant squid can grow from 12 to 14 meters in length. However, they only live about five years in the wild.
Little is known about their daily life ormating habits. Although studies of their innards show that they feed on fish and even other squid. They are also often found in the stomachs of sperm whales, which means they are not only hunters, but also prey.
