What is known

Within

initiative, the company will publish news about Sonic every 20th of the new month until the end of 2020. Let us remember that the first Sonic the Hedgehog was released on June 23, 1991 on the Sega Genesis console.

The January portion of information included wallpapers forPC desktop and smartphones, Twitter profile backgrounds, as well as avatars for social networks. SEGA has also started looking for artists who love the series and will draw more calendar wallpapers for the remaining months.

The company has not yet said how it will endinitiative, but it seems that fans of the franchise are waiting for the announcement of a new game in the series. Back in March 2019, game designer and head of Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka confirmed that the studio was already working on a new Sonic.

The last canonical game in the series was SonicForces, which fans liked less than the pixelated Sonic Mania. It's possible that SEGA will combine Mania's gameplay with the modern graphics of Sonic Forces to please newcomers and fans of the series.
