SIM-cards in Russia became paid for new subscribers

The usual course of things in Russia is actively changing. Since the beginning of this week, SIM cards that have been issued for many years

free for new clients of telecom operators, now they have ceased to be so. Publication “Kommersant” reports that the fee for new “SIM cards” introduced by Beeline, MegaFon and its subsidiary Yota (in all cases we are talking about the price of 50 rubles). A little later this will be done by MTS (June 24) and Tele2 (August 1). Everything is explained as a “forced measure” due to “increasing costs of telecom operators for the purchase of SIM cards, the cost of which has increased significantly in 2022”.

So, at the moment the cost of one“SIM cards” is about €0.8, and in June it grew by 250%, and by September it is expected to grow to 420%. Previously, operators took on the cost of SIM cards, implying that the subscriber would recoup its cost many times over over a long period of use.
