Skin cancer vaccine proved effective years later

Nature published the results of a study by scientists aimed at identifying the effectiveness of the vaccine

As it turned out, the vaccine retained its effectiveness after four years.

As part of the scientific work, scientists administered the NeoVax vaccine to a group of eight people with skin cancer. Moreover, it was injected about 18 weeks after the first surgery to remove the tumor. The vaccine itself provokes the recognition by the immune system of mutated molecules located on the surface of cancer cells.

To create a personal vaccine for the patient, specialists took samples of his blood and tumors.Based on this, highly specific treatments were developed that helped the immune system of a particular patient to identify and destroy cancer cells. As it turned out, the effectiveness of the vaccine does not lose over the years - scientists checked this four years after its introduction.According to them, the immune system cells of vaccinated people are still able to detect the neoantigens of melanoma cells and destroy them.
