Nick Maguire, Sony Vice President and Global Head of Subscriptions, speaking with
What is known
In general, the updated PlayStation Plus, whichadded two new levels: Extra and Deluxe, became a real hit for the company (and for gamers too), offering a library of hundreds of interesting games, which is also updated monthly. Subscription-driven games that have been wildly popular throughout the year include Ghost of Tsushima, Rainbow Six: Siege, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, and Stray, which is a subscription-based game on release day. As for the latter, this release helped introduce the adventure of the ginger cat to millions of gamers, but Sony continues to stick to the strategy of not adding new games to PS Plus, unlike Microsoft, which constantly brings games on release to Game Pass.
Nick also said that placing games in a subscription a year or two after release allows gamers to re-engage in these projects, and this strategy will continue into the future.
Now the company is thinking about what gamesit is worth adding and what new functions the service needs. For example, they are already planning to add the ability to play through the “cloud” owners of the Deluxe level, which turned out to be the most popular among all three.
It remains to be seen how the updated PS Plus will develop further and whether Sony will change its strategy for the service.
