Sony has added a name change to the PlayStation Network, and here's how to do it

In October 2018, Sony announced the possibility of changing the name on the PlayStation Network. Six months later, innovation

has reached users, and now all sorts of “benders9000” will be able to start a new multiplayer life.

What is known

The function to change PSN Online ID has become available forusers in North America as early as April 10, and now European gamers can change their nickname. Sony won't charge you for your first name change, but then expect to pay the company $10, or $5 if you're a PS Plus subscriber. Returning your old online name is free of charge. Changing a nickname is not limited by time or number of requests, but you cannot change the Online ID for a child’s account.

After changing the name, you can enable the displayold nickname for 30 days, but the option can only be activated when the ID is changed. You can also change your online name in a game for PlayStation 4, but only if it was released after April 1, 2018, and projects for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita are not supported at all. You can view the list of games that allow you to change your nickname on the Sony website.

How to change PSN Online ID

To change the name via PlayStation 4:

  1. Go to "Settings"
  2. Select “Account Management” > “Account Information”> "Profile" > "Online ID";
  3. Next, enter the desired nickname or choose from those proposed;
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

To change the name through the browser:

  1. Log in to your PlayStation Network account and select PSN Profile from the menu;
  2. Click "Edit" next to your online name;
  3. Enter the new desired Online ID or select one of the proposed ones;
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
