Sony has patented a controller for the PlayStation 5, and here are the first images of the new Dualshock

Gamers have already taken a look at the PlayStation 5's design for developers, and now Sony has patented the look

controllers for game consoles.

What is known

The document was noticed by Videogames Chronicle, having lookedto the website of the Japanese Patent Office, where schematic images of the gamepad are also published. Judging by the pictures, Sony has decided to enlarge the triggers, make the sticks smaller, and add a USB port with a microphone. At the same time, they decided to remove the light indicator that infuriated gamers in Dualshock 4. Thank you. It's also worth noting that the gamepad has become more like an Xbox One controller due to wider handles.

Judging by the schematic images, the conditionalDualshock 5 looks little different from its predecessor, but the main changes are hidden inside. Along with the announcement of the release date and the official name of the PlayStation 5, Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe President Jim Ryan spoke about haptic feedback. The company decided to improve the vibration response, and now it can transmit sensations from different surfaces.

Wired journalists have already tried out the updated technology. In a short “demo”, the character ran on various surfaces, and the controller was already creating “different tactile experiences”:

“The sand seemed slow and brittle; dirtseemed slow and raw. On ice, the high-frequency response made my thumbs really feel my character gliding. Jumping into the pool, I felt the resistance of the water; on a wooden bridge - an elastic feeling"

The gamepad was also tested in the Gran Turismo Sport race launched on PlayStation 5 for developers:

“Driving along the border between the path and the dirt, Ifelt both surfaces. Doing the same thing on the same road using DualShock 4 on PS4 made that feeling completely disappear. It’s not that old-style feedback faded—there was no feedback.”

According to journalists, with the addition of improvedvibration motor and larger battery, the Dualshock 5 has become heavier than the fourth version. At the same time, as product manager Toshi Aoki notes, the controller remains lighter than the Xbox One controller.

Let us also remind you that in October thethe first live photo of the PlayStation 5. The image showed a version for developers, so it’s too early to judge the design, but the technical side may remain unchanged in the version for sale. For example, the PlayStation 5 will still have a BluRay drive, and may also have six USB connectors and a built-in camera.

Additional features are also worth remembering:about backward compatibility. Judging by the leaks, the PlayStation 5 will be able to run games from previous generations of Sony consoles. In addition, the company plans to add backward compatibility for controllers, so don’t rush to throw away your Dualshock 4 after purchasing a PlayStation 5.
