Sony took away from Microsoft an excellent Xbox One exclusive from the authors of Marvel's Spider-Man

Back in August 2019, Sony announced the purchase of Insomniac Games, creators of Spider-Man (2018), Ratchet & Clank and Resistance. Rights

The studio's games automatically went to the Japanese, but the fate of Sunset Overdrive, a Microsoft exclusive, remained unknown.

What is known

In an interview with Inside Games (via Push Square)Sony Interactive Entertainment President Shuhei Yoshida announced that the rights to Sunset Overdrive had transferred along with the rest of the property. In 2013, the project was released on Xbox One, then moved to PC, and now has completely lost its status as a Microsoft exclusive. Sunset Overdrive has become one of the best Xbox One exclusives, so it's not surprising that Sony decided to pick it up.

It is unlikely that the company will leave the project gathering dust on the shelfwith the rest of the intellectual property, so gamers should wait for the release on PlayStation 4. Moreover, interest in the project may mean that Sony is planning a sequel to Sunset Overdrive. Insomniac has already proven to SIE that they can release great exclusives and improving an already good game will not be a problem for the studio.
