Sony Xperia 5: a compact flagship with features like the Xperia 1

Sony brought a new flagship smartphone to IFA 2019 - Xperia 5.

What is known

The new product has become smaller

version of Xperia 1, which was shown at the beginning of the year.The smartphone received the same elongated glass body with water protection according to the IP65/68 standard. It was equipped with a 6.1-inch OLED screen without cutouts or holes. The display resolution is FHD+ and the aspect ratio is 21:9 (CinemaWide). There is HDR support.

The top-end is responsible for the performance of the device.the Snapdragon 855 processor is paired with 6 GB of RAM, and for autonomy there is a 3140 mAh battery with a USB-C port and wireless charging. The new front camera is 8 megapixels, and the main triple camera is 12 megapixels. The first module is the main one with a 1/2.6” sensor, f/1.6 aperture, optical and electronic stabilization, as well as support for Dual Pixel technology. The second module is a telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. The third module is a wide-angle lens. The fingerprint scanner in the smartphone is installed on the side.

Interestingly, Xperia 5 has received support for wireless connection to the DualShock 4 controller. A similar feature will be added to Xperia 1 in future updates.

Price and when to wait

The smartphone will go on sale on October 4. The company will announce a price tag for the news a bit later.
