South Korean Defense Development Agency (DAPA) and Korean Air Industries (KAI) continue testing
What is known
KAI first tested the weapons of the newfighter. The second prototype of the KF-21 took to the skies and launched a Meteor air-to-air missile developed by the European concern MBDA. It weighs 180 kg and can defeat air threats at a distance of up to 200 km. The maximum speed exceeds 4500 km/h.
The third prototype of the fighter tested the gunM61A2 Gatling caliber 20mm. It was developed by the American company General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems. During the tests, the aircraft fired 1000 shots.
New tests passed near the south coastRepublic of Korea, 300 km from Seoul. In January 2023, the KF-21 was able to reach supersonic speed for the first time. A month later, KAI took to the skies for the first time a two-seat version of the fighter.
Tests of the KF-21 will last until 2026.To do this, KAI will create six prototypes. In the near future, the company and DAPA will test aircraft at low and high altitudes, as well as test other equipment.
