Jet aircraft took part in military exercisesmultiple launch rocket systems M270 MLRS. Note that the European M270, unlike the American ones, cannot use ATACMS tactical missiles with a launch range of up to 300 km.
In 1997, the Republic of Korea allocated nearly $300million for the purchase of ATACMS in the Block 1 modification with a launch range of 145 km. In total, Seoul purchased 111 missiles and 29 M270 MLRS launchers. Two years later, Lockheed Martin received almost $81 million to develop 111 Block 1A missiles with a range of up to 300 km.
But an unfortunate incident occurred during the exercises.South Korea launched two Hyunmoo-2 rockets, but one of them fell on the territory of a military base. Residents reported an explosion, but the headquarters said that the rocket did not explode, and the fire started due to the burning of rocket fuel.
