SpaceX fired everyone who wrote a letter against Elon Musk

First released yesterday, the letter called Musk's behavior on social media "a common cause

distraction and embarrassment" and asked SpaceX to condemn his actions.

According to a report by three unnamed employees andAccording to an email from SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX has fired the organizers of the letter, but there is no indication of exactly how many people were affected.

“[SpaceX] laid off a number of employees,” wroteShotwell in a letter. “The letter, the requests and the overall process made employees feel uncomfortable, intimidated, bullied and even angered. By signing the letter, they approved someone else's point of view, which did not correspond to their own. We have too much important work to do, and there is no need for such initiatives. Basically, it’s a kind of over-activity.”

The open letter from employees mentionsrecent allegations of sexual harassment involving Musk, which reportedly resulted in a $250,000 settlement. Musk said the allegations were "completely untrue" and joked rudely about some of the details on Twitter. SpaceX defended Musk, with Shotwell saying she "personally" believes the allegations are false.

Another topic of the email was distractions.due to Musk's use of Twitter. In February, the SEC launched an investigation into Musk for possible insider trading, and a court recently ruled that Tesla's lawyers must continue to approve his tweets. (Earlier this week, Musk appealed the decision.) Prior to the letter, Musk reportedly told SpaceX employees that they must spend at least 40 hours a week in the office or risk being fired.

In her email, Shotwell added that“Barrowing thousands of people in a company with repetitive spam emails and asking them to sign emails and complete unauthorized surveys during the course of a business day is unacceptable. Please focus on the SpaceX mission and use your time to do your best work. That's how we get to Mars."
