Amazon received federal approvalthe US Communications Commission (FCC) on the withdrawal of Internet satellites. The company will be able to deploy 3,236 spacecraft in orbit to provide broadband Internet access in all regions of the world.
Amazon had to wait about three years afterof how the US regulator issued prior approval for the deployment of satellites. In 2020, the FCC additionally asked the company for a plan to reduce space debris.
Three years later, representatives of the federaldepartments approved the request. They stated that the report received from Amazon is in line with the requirements. The company will report twice a year to the commission on the number of satellites withdrawn and disposed of.
Amazon also gave guarantees that it is capable ofremove spacecraft from orbit after their service life is over. The company will have 7 years to do this. Eliminating satellites will reduce the risk of collision with the International Space Station (ISS).
