Spam Chief: Who Released the Most Smartphone Models in 2022?

About ten years ago, while observing the insane number of budget smartphones being released into the market by the company

Samsung, journalists came up with the word“gadget spam” and over time forced the Koreans to reduce their assortment. Things moved quickly: the company reduced its range to a few clear lines and stopped producing the same phones under different names in different countries (we then summed up the interim results of this process in detail). However, other manufacturers, on the contrary, adopted the spam gadget and began to produce even more models than Samsung did at one time.

If we exclude from the calculation the very budgetmodels and leave only those that work on more or less serious processors (Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 and higher / 695 and higher, Dimensity 800 and higher / Helio G95 and higher, Exynos 1080 and higher, Tanggula T770, any Bionic and Tensor), then BBK becomes the undisputed leader of this process: last year it released 123 smartphone models. Most of the new products went to the Vivo brand (34), followed by OPPO (33), Realme (25), iQOO (19) and OnePlus (12).

In second place in terms of gadget spam is confidentlyXiaomi: 52 models per year. Almost half (25) entered the Redmi series, another 14 came out under the main Xiaomi brand, another 8 under the Poco brand, and another 5 under the Black Shark brand. Samsung this time was only in third place with 24 models, followed by ZTE (22 models). Half of the ZTE range came out under its own brand, half - under the Nubia brand. Transsion closes the top five: the company has created 20 models of fairly advanced smartphones, of which 13 went to the Infinix brand and 7 to the Tecno brand.

Sixth place is shared by Lenovo and Honor, which released19 smartphone models. True, only two Lenovo models came out under its main brand - the remaining 17 went to Motorola. On the eighth line is Huawei with 18 models (12 under its own brand, 3 under the Hi nova brand, 2 under the TD Tech brand and 1 under the Wiko brand). If you don't believe in Honor's independence from Huawei, it turns out that the combined Huanor released 37 models over the past year, placing itself in the middle between Xiaomi and Samsung. The ninth position is occupied by Sharp, which released 8 models of smartphones (including one under the Leitz brand), and several companies that released 5 models of smartphones each compete for tenth place: Apple, ASUS, Doogee and Umidigi.

Finally, from 1 to 4 smartphone models in the pastreleased 360OS, AKXJ, Aoro, Blackview, Blu, Bkav, Cherry Mobile, Conquest, Crosscall, F150, FCNT, Hisense, General Mobile, Gigaset, Google, HTC, Lanix, Micromax, Nokia (HMD), Oukitel, Sony, Tianyi , Ulefone and Vertu - together they created 4 more models. Of course, the rating will be very different if you include budget models in it, but an accurate calculation of their number is a very difficult task, because there are too many of them, and many of them are produced only in certain countries in very small editions, and we can hardly find out about them. . What do you think of this ranking?
