Stadia is preparing a retaliation: Google bought a studio to develop exclusive games

The launch of the cloud gaming service Stadia did not become a breakthrough in the industry, and even managed to disappoint the first

users. Still, Google decided not to give up and has already acquired a team to develop exclusive games.

What is known

The company bought Typhoon Studios, consistingof industry veterans. Thus, studio head Alex Hutchinson worked on Batman: Arkham Knight and Splinter Cell, and co-founder Reid Schneider was listed as the lead designer of Sims 2 and creative director of Assassin's Creed III and Far Cry 4. Still, Google liked the ability of the team of 26 people to make interesting games, and most importantly fast.

“They really put together a AAA team, and the goalacquisition is to gain an advantage in creating the system-defining games that everyone expects. This is the best team of AAA industry veterans who already have a great working relationship and will be able to ship something quickly and have a lot of great ideas for the platform,” said Jade Raymond, Head of Stadia Games & Entertainment.

Typhoon Studios just recently joinedto Google, so the exclusive Stadia project is still in the early stages of development and the team is looking for ideas. Moreover, according to Raymond, the studio’s new game will not be released soon and the release should be expected after 2020. Typhoon is Google's first exclusive studio, and the company is now considering purchasing other teams.

Typhoon are currently working on Journey to the Savage Planet. Due to the merger with Google, the team’s plans have not changed, and the game will be released on January 20 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in the Epic Games Store.
