What is interesting about the SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless Headset?

SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless - wirelessFull-size gaming headset with closed acoustic design, 40mm dynamic drivers and a detachable bi-directional microphone with passive noise reduction. For wireless communication, a 2.4 GHz radio channel is used. The headset is universal and can be used with PCs, PS4, XBox, Nintendo Switch and Android smartphones. A transmitter with a Type-C connector is used for connection. They promise that the headset can work up to 20 hours on a single charge, with a range of 9 m.

What is included?

Headset comes in large white and orangea cardboard box with information about the characteristics, technology and scope of delivery. Well, the image of the headset itself, of course. The set includes SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless itself, a removable microphone, a compact USB Type-C transmitter, a Type-A to Type-C adapter cable, a 3.5 mm cable, a MicroUSB charging cable and documentation.

What does SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless look like?

</ img>

All SteelSeries Arctis headsets delight with theirminimalism and a stylish, moderately strict look. SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless continues this good tradition. Nothing extra, just black matte plastic. From the elements of “decor” - only small logos on cups. Plastic with a slightly rough surface is used. It vaguely resembles Soft-touch, although it is not one, which is for the better: it doesn’t collect fingerprints as much.

</ img>

The earcups are quite large, the lids are flat. The headband is attached with a standard “fork”. The mounts allow the cups to take the desired angle, and it is also possible to turn them towards you so that they do not interfere if the headset is hanging around your neck and is not in use.

Unlike most Arctis models,The headset received not a double hanging headband, but a “classic” option with sliding size adjustment. The external headband is made of plastic, the internal is a durable steel frame. On the inside of the headband there is a soft insert:

The ear pads are covered in an interesting breathable fabric. It vaguely resembles that used in sportswear. Inside there is memory foam filling. The speakers are covered with fabric with a geometric pattern. Interestingly, this model is listed on the international website as Switch, PlayStation and Xbox. There are no differences in the characteristics, only the pattern inside the cups is of different colors. Blue and green for PlayStation and Xbox respectively.

Flexible bi-directional microphone on a flexible leg:

The functional elements of the headset are located onthe lower parts of the cups. On the right - only the LED indicator and power button. It can also be used to control playback. One press - pause / play (or receive a call when used with a smartphone), two presses - the next track, three - the previous:

</ img>

There is a lot of stuff on the left cup:a microphone connector in the recess, MicroUSB for charging the headset (a strange solution, I would like Type-C), a 3.5 mm jack for a wired connection, a volume wheel and a microphone mute slider. Often only the volume control and slider will be used and they are placed very conveniently. Just right for the thumb.

</ img>

The transmitter is equipped with a Type-C connector. It is very small in size, flat in shape, so it is quite convenient to connect it to a smartphone and put it in your pocket:

</ img>

USB cables are medium in thickness, in rubberbraid, there are no special complaints against them. The 3.5 mm cable is significantly thinner. When using with him there were no problems, but durability is doubtful. Although the pinout is standard and replacing it will not be a problem.

There are no complaints about the appearance of the headset. The only thing that bothers is the plastic used in the construction. I will not argue after such a short time of use, but it does not feel like the most durable.

How easy is it to use SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless?

The headband size adjustment range is quitewide and the downforce is optimal. The headset does not fly off, but does not press anywhere. The size of the cups and ear pads allows the ears to be completely inside. I won’t say anything about summer, but now, in November, you can sit in the SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless for a full day of work, practically without taking it off, and not feel any discomfort. The ears do not “overheat”, nothing presses or interferes anywhere. There is a suspicion that leatherette upholstery would provide better sound insulation, but fabric upholstery is definitely more comfortable. The low weight of the headset also contributes to its convenience: it was not possible to find information on the official website, but on the Internet they write that it is a little more than 250 g. This is very modest by the standards of a full-size wireless headset.

</ img>

Connection is extremely simple. If this concerns a smartphone (with Type-C, of course), Nintendo Switch or laptop/PC with Type-C, then simply connect the transmitter and turn on the headset. No more manipulations are needed. There are only two things you need to be aware of. The first is the Samsung Galaxy Note10 line: there was no opportunity to check, but there is a possibility that it will not work. Like absolutely all third-party audio devices that we tried to connect to Samsung's flagship line. The second is the shape of the transmitter. It is not suitable for use with smartphones in protective bumpers.

</ img>

Devices without Type-C, like Sony PlayStation 4 orNot the latest desktops/laptops are connected using the supplied adapter cable. It connects to the USB Type-A of the required device, and the supplied transmitter is connected to it. The headset “starts” immediately after switching on, no additional manipulations are required either on consoles or on PC. In any case, I didn’t have such problems. In case of a low battery, there is a 3.5 mm cable and a connector for it.

SteelSeries promise up to 9 meters range. In real life, there are no problems with the signal. At a distance of about 6 meters from the wall, no gaps are observed.

What about sound quality, microphone and software functionality?

SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless uses40 mm dynamic drivers. On the official website, the manufacturer indicates that the same drivers are used as in the Arctis 7. I have not heard of this model, but, apparently, it turned out to be successful. Either gamers have become more demanding of sound quality, or the fashion for booming bass that clogs all other frequencies has simply passed, but lately gaming headsets have been producing significantly more balanced sound. In any case, not the cheapest models. SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless also showed its best side in this regard: there are no significant dips or excessive peaks throughout the entire frequency range, everything is enough, the mids are not recessed. At the same time, when it is needed (in games and movies, primarily) the headset shows that it is capable of delivering very massive and voluminous bass where it is needed. Game and movie sounds, effects and various rumbles sound very convincing and dense. The positioning of sound sources is also excellent. The headset is also suitable for listening to music if you are an average listener. Audiophiles will not be satisfied with the sound quality, and the headset is not positioned as an advanced solution for music.

</ img>

Detachable ClearCast microphone is certifiedDiscord. It is bi-directional with passive noise cancellation. It was not possible to test it in a very noisy environment, but at home it copes with music playing in the background, the interlocutor hears speech well. The sound is somewhat compressed in frequency and sounds a little flat, but this is what most gaming headsets suffer from.

Software is used to configure the headsetSteelSeries Engine 3. It is common to all gaming peripherals of the manufacturer. On the general screen, the first tab displays available devices and brief manuals for use. What is not very convenient is that the battery charge indication is only on this screen and it is not a percentage, only divisions. So the accuracy leaves much to be desired. In the “applications” tab you can customize the lighting effects of applications (not relevant in this case: the headset does not have backlighting). In the “Library” tab You can enable automatic changes to the settings of your devices when you turn on specific games.

In the settings of the headset itself there is an equalizer withdifferent presets and the ability to manually adjust, adjust the microphone volume, the ability to turn on your own voice from the mithrofon into the headphones, a compressor for equalizing the volume and setting the headphones to automatically turn off to save power. The interface is simple and straightforward and has almost everything you need. Only the aforementioned battery indication is missing.

What is the battery life?

SteelSeries promises that Arctis 1 Wireless canwork 20 hours on one battery charge. Although it is not specified at what volume. In general, according to personal feelings, the stated operating time corresponds to reality. The headset worked for two full working days in wireless mode and there was one more charge remaining.

SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless - very successfulgaming headset and is perfect for those looking for a universal, convenient solution. It is compatible with all current gaming platforms, including Nintendo Switch and Android smartphones. It can work both wirelessly and via wire if the battery is low. Although the battery life of the headset is long. Arctis 1 Wireless sounds good (considering the class of the device), is equipped with a smart microphone and looks nice. Among the controversial points, one can note that plastic is not the most durable (according to personal feelings). Well, if you have an iPhone, you won’t be able to connect a headset to it. SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless price -3500 UAH, which is quite adequate, given its functionality.
