Cooler than Microsoft: Sony patents “interactive tiles” for PlayStation 5

The “live tiles” interface became Microsoft’s signature feature, which it used not only in Windows,

but also Xbox One consoles. Apparently, now Sony also liked this idea, and the company has patented its own analogue.

What is known

Sony Interactive Entertainment nicknamedtechnology "Dynamic interface for launching direct gameplay." The patent, published March 19, states that developers will define their own set of actions for each tile, creating a kind of placeholder. For example, instead of launching Modern Warfare, going into multiplayer and selecting the desired battle mode, the player just needs to press one button and immediately get into the lobby.

However, the tiles can display information such as achievements that the player needs to complete. There, the player will be able to see notifications about in-game events, updates, and so on.

"The user can select a template thatcan then launch an action associated with the tile template and create an object to collect and store data associated with the action. Data from the object can be displayed in real time to show the current progress of the user participating in the activity. Once an activity is completed, it can be shown as replayable, and data collected during the activity can be used to dynamically update the user's profile, display activity history, or predict future patterns and/or activities that the user is likely to interact with,” the description reads.

Gamers suggest that Sony may buildon the PlayStation 5 system, a section in the spirit of “What to do now.” When starting the console, the player will see the content that the game offers and will be able to choose entertainment to their liking. In addition, thanks to the fast SSD, loading into the activity itself will be much faster.
