Strategy Analytics: Apple has become a leader in the smartphone market, but only in the first quarter

Analysts from Strategy Analytics summed up the results of the fourth quarter of 2019 and the entire year in the smartphone market.

Quarter results

Total from October to December 2019 worldwide374.5 million smartphones were sold, with Apple suddenly becoming the leader. During this time, the Apple company sold 70.7 million iPhones and occupied 18.9% of the market.

In second place is Samsung, which has 68.8 million smartphones sold and 18.4% of the market. That is, it lacked only 0.6% to get ahead of Apple.

Huawei deserved bronze: 56 million devices sold and 15% of the total market.

Results of the year

But based on the results of the entire 2019, the balance of power remained the same. Samsung is still in first place. In 12 months, it sold 295.1 million smartphones and now holds 20.9% of the market.

Close on its heels is Huawei, which has 240.5 million sales and 17% market share. Apple comes next with 197.4 million sales and 14% market share.

In fourth and fifth place are Chinese Xiaomi and OPPO, which over the year managed to sell 124.8 and 115.1 million smartphones, respectively.

In total, 1.41 billion smartphones were sold during the year, and this is 1% less than in 2018.
