Study: Apple Pay and Google Pay make people spend more money

Scientists took a sample of 21,457 adultsAmericans and analyzed their purchasing behavior. The results showed that 37% of participants used mobile payments, and their preferred payment method appeared to have an impact on spending.

Participants who used mobilepayments, the likelihood of spending more money than usual was 34% higher. In general, these people scored higher on spending behavior. They experienced problems managing personal finances and also had poorer credit history.

The researchers suggested that this effect may be due to the convenience of payment, as well as the fact that spending becomes more intangible.
