Swiss scientists have created an edible drone with 300 calories to save lives in emergency situations

Scientists at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne have developed a partially edible

unmanned aerial vehicle. The creation of the drone was carried out as part of the European project RoboFood.

The purpose of developing such a drone is toproviding food to people who are in trouble. Part of the drone's structure is made from food that could save the lives of people waiting for rescuers to arrive.

Swiss scientists continue to improveyour unmanned aerial vehicle. The current version of the drone has a food payload of 50% of its own weight. In the future, experts plan to further increase this figure.

The drone prototype only has ediblewings that can satisfy a person's needs in one breakfast. They are made from rice wafers. They were cut into honeycombs and glued together with gelatin. In case of contact of the drone with water, the wings were packed in a film.

The prototype of the drone was able to develop in flightspeeds up to 10 m/s (36 km/h), proving the concept to work. In the future, Swiss scientists plan to improve the design of the drone, increase the calorie content (now - 300 kcal) and add an edible container for storing water.
