Taiwan authorities said they had tightened their laws to combat technology theft and poaching.
An amendment was made to the law on nationalSecurity Council, which made economic espionage a crime punishable by up to 12 years in prison. A separate law governing relations with China has also been amended to discourage illegal investment and talent poaching by the PRC.
Now managers of Chinese companies whowho open subsidiaries on the island without permission will be sentenced to up to three years in prison, and those who help Chinese investors work illegally in Taiwan will be required to pay a maximum fine of NT$25 million.
In addition, individuals involved in "keynational technology" will be fined up to a maximum of NT$10 million if they go to China within three years of being fired or leaving the government without prior approval.
