Tesla to sell CA$59,990 100% Made in China Model Y electric vehicles in Canada

Canadians will soon be able to buy Tesla Model Y electric cars imported from China. Production

vehicles began at the company's plant in Shanghai.

What is known

Model Y is the best-selling electric carTesla in the world. The decision to supply Chinese-made machines to Canada will allow the company to connect its largest plant with its largest market (North America).

Last week, Tesla updated its Canadian website andadded a message about the imminent appearance on the market of a new version of Model Y. It will cost CA$59,990 ($44,200), i.e. CA$10,000 ($7,370) and CA$16,000 ($11,790) cheaper than the Long Range and Performance versions, respectively. Buyers will be able to receive the electric car from May to July 2023.

The Government of Canada has updated the website and addedthe new Model Y to the list of vehicles eligible for the CA$5,000 ($3,685) rebate. The Long Range version is also on the list.

Production of Model Y for Canada in China has begunin April. By the end of the second quarter of 2023, the company wants to produce approximately 9,000 electric vehicles. The vehicles will be equipped with lithium-iron-phosphate batteries. At the moment, electric vehicles with Chinese batteries are sold in North America, but the assembly takes place in Texas.
