The admission was made in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed by a government website
Black Vault filed a FOIA request with the US Navy in April2020 — just a day after the Navy declassified three famous videos taken by Navy pilots of high-tech aircraft moving in seemingly impossible ways.
Black Vault requested that the Navy now hand over all other videos.

More than two years later, the government respondeda letter both confirming the presence of more videos and rejecting the request to release them on grounds of national security.
“Disclosure of this information would harmnational security, as it can provide adversaries with valuable information about the operations, vulnerabilities and / or capabilities of the Department of Defense and the Navy,” Gregory Cason, Deputy Director of FOIA, wrote in a response letter. "No parts of the video may be separated for release."
Cason added that the Navy declassified three UAP videos released in April 2020, only because the videos had previously been leaked to the media and had already been "widely discussed in the public domain."
In May 2022, the Ministry of Defense conductedthe first public hearings on UFOs since the 1960s. The hearing primarily discussed the June 2021 Pentagon report, which stated that US Navy pilots had reported 144 sightings since 2004.
