In the midst of beta testing an unremarkable betaAndroid 13for developers9to5Googlediscovered

something interesting: our annual Android Easter egg. This year the hidden feature is based on a colorful splash screen withAndroid 12, filling it with emoji. Lots of emojis.

The way the easter egg works in the current beta is similar to last year's version - launch the easter egg by going to Settings > About phone > VersionAndroid, and then quickly tap your Android version three times. The analog clock widget will open; move the arrow to 13:00 and you will see a multi-colored set of spots appear, representing a custom color themeMaterial You.

Here's how the Easter egg differs from last year's:hold down one of the dots and they will all turn into emojis. You can keep tapping to move between screens with different emoji themes like sea creatures, cats, and moon phases.

There is a practical aspect to the Easter eggAndroid 12, also unchanged from last year. When you find an Easter egg, you will have a new home screen widget calledAndroid S Easter Egg. By adding it to your home screen, you will seecolor swatches for the various system colors the phone uses, based on your backgrounds, namely Material You, so that they can be saved or shared. Healthy? Yes. As fun as a screen full of cat reaction emojis? In no case.
