The best compact laptop of 2020 made by ... smartphone manufacturer - Huawei

9/10Rating according to FerraHuawei MateBook X 2020Releasing laptops until recently was considered a non-prestigious occupation

— Sony and Samsung are happy to stop doing thisengage in it as soon as the opportunity arose, but Toshiba laptops could not withstand the competition and quietly died. And then the industry turned around on the other side - smartphone manufacturers (Huawei, Xiaomi) came and showed that with “hands in the right place” you can produce laptops better than the companies that have been doing this for decades. And before us is one of the best examples of “new wave” laptops.

Huawei began producing laptops relativelyrecently, so we won’t start talking about the laptop right away, when readers don’t understand where it is in the hierarchy, and first we’ll briefly clarify what kind of Huawei laptops exist in the wild. Don't be afraid, it's not as confusing as Acer's inhuman indexes Acer SP513-54N, SF314-41 and so on. And it’s even clearer how to distinguish laptops from each other, for example, which of the ASUS VivoBook S15 M533IA and VivoBook 15 X512 laptops is older.

I don't understand anything about Huawei laptop models. What is the difference?

There are only four varieties of Huawei beeches:

  • Younger notebooks of the MateBook D series... I would like to say "budget", but in Russianbudgetary realities are all sorts of sad units based on Intel Pentium Gold or AMD Athlon Gold processors. And Huawei does not even produce laptops based on Core i3 and Ryzen 3 - Core i5 and Ryzen 5 are installed even in lower models. All in all, the MateBook D is more of a full-sized mid-range laptop with tons of ports and no experimentation in case design / construction.
  • "Numbered" MateBook laptops... That is, MateBook 13, MateBook 14 at thismoment. Here the cases are already "pulled up" towards compactness, displays with reduced bezels, ports, due to reduced thickness, most often Type-C, are often equipped with discrete graphics NVIDIA MX250 / MX350 to be more versatile.
  • MateBook X sub-flags... Compared to smartphones, where Huawei isP40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus, these are such models on the verge of P40 and P40 Pro. In them, no matter how sugary it sounds, it is no longer economy, but "the soul of the master is revealed" and all sorts of cool things. For example, the 2020 MateBook X was made the smallest laptop with a 13 ”display, and the Core i5 was taught to work in it without fans (and no noise at all). In general, they "shoe a flea" in terms of compactness and autonomy, but without an application for maximum processor options.
  • Flagships MateBook X Pro... These are the laptops that Huawei designs withtaking into account the "thickest" budget. The base is taken (not literally, but the main chips, like a hidden camera or a very thin case) Huawei MateBook X, fans, NVIDIA MX discrete (!), Four speakers, a hefty battery and a Core i7 / Ryzen 7 processor ( !). The only drawback is the solidly soldered SSD, otherwise it is a product of Chinese engineering, which you still need to look cooler in the world of Windows laptops.

But today we have the MateBook X, and we will tell you why we are scattering loud titles that you read in the title.
