The British picked up an old "gas cylinder" on the road: it could blow up an entire block

Rachel Wills and Simon Briscombe believed that while collecting rubbish in the River Nidd in Knaresborough they had picked up

an old gas canister that they loaded into their car for proper disposal.

The couple drove a kilometer with a bomb lying onpassenger seat. Collectors found out what it really was when they "scraped the dirt" off the device. After reading the inscription, the lucky ones called the sappers. In front of them was a bomb from the First World War. They took a picture of the device and wrapped it in sandbags to wait for experts.

“We found very strange things, includinga sewing machine from 1898, carts, money, shoes, and more. But I can't believe we found what we found: and it was still active. She was in our car, a live bomb, and we also drove at maximum speed, ”said Wills.

Old gas bottle turned out to be a bomb

Upon arrival of the sappers, the collectors were evacuatedalong with 30 other neighboring families, and an explosive ordnance disposal team defused the bomb. According to Wills: “We are still in shock. If Simon knew what it was, he wouldn't have moved. The police were horrified because he brought the bomb home by car, and there are a lot of potholes in Naresboro. But we didn't know what it was."

It is reported that the sappers successfully defused the bomb.
